Day 4

Be your cheerleader.

My birthday is one day away and I am happy, not stressed or anything like that. As I will be 27 tomorrow, I am starting to think about how far I have come. Am I thrilled with my progress so far? Yes. Am I eager to do more? Yes. Of course, watch out for me, I am gonna take the world by storm.

Now for today’s article. I’ll share with you a valuable lesson we often overlook. I say this because we often try to get this from others rather than from ourselves. It’s as if we owe others the power to decide how our day will unfold. I’m talking about motivation.

“Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.” — Jim Ryun.

Motivation is the ability to drive yourself to accomplish something. While it sometimes requires an external force, you also need to apply an internal force as well. While external motivation motivates, it is different for each individual. It is essential to work on your internal voice and motivate yourself to take action.

In other words, what do I mean? You have to be your own cheerleader.

I can assure you that life will often knock you down and there will be days when you lack the motivation to do anything. But even then, you must keep moving forward. It is likely that there will be some individuals who won’t believe in your dreams, that they will mock you and make you deny what you believe in.

If you were motivated by an external source, what will happen if it stops? Because of this, motivation must come more from the inside, rather than the outside.

Motivate yourself by being your own cheerleader and make an habit of motivating yourself daily. Part of being a cheerleader is celebrating your wins, no matter how big or small they are.

I have applied this and it has worked wonders for me. I embrace myself and become my cheerleader. I don’t wait for others to cheer me to do things. On the days I lack motivation, I sleep, listen to a sermon or read a book and this helps.

Likewise, make it your duty to be a cheerleader for yourself rather than waiting for others to cheer you up. If you decide to wait, you will do so in vain, because the people you are relying on are also people who need motivation.
